In the last two days of the tour, I opted out of going into the big city.  I had been there many times before, but had rarely explored Northern California.

Nephews’s Place

I will refer to my cousin’s son as my nephew, which is a lot better than “first cousin once removed” (which sounds like he did something bad to get himself removed from something).  Nephew Charlie Hallowell is the proprietor of two (going on three) well-regarded restaurants in the Oakland area, including Pizzaiolo featuring wood-fired pizzas.

“Uncle John” tasted the sausage pizza, the meatballs, the mushrooms, the Caesar salad, and the flourless chocolate cake!  Yum!  Plus I had the chance to catch up with the owner’s Mom, my cousin Barb Hallowell.

Muir Woods and The Birds
