I had the unbridled pleasure of finally making the acquaintance of my three grand nephews and nieces.  I have seen pictures of the progeny of my nephew Geordie Du Pont and my niece Alexa Du Pont Bell, but meeting the kids in person was just such a thrill.

Geordie and Julie live in Darien, Connecticut and work in New York City.  Their kids Sophie and “Little Geordie” are adorable.  Little Geordie liked the 1932 Cadillac “a lot” and want to show me all the things about it…  “Wheel!”  “Light!”  I can handle single-word sentences, although as a member of this family, I will not be long before his sentences will go on for several minutes!  Sophie insisted that she was NOT “Princess Sophia” as I declared, but instead, “just Sophie.”  I may have won her over; she made me a paper turtle!

Alexa and Jeff live and work in New York.  Grand nephew Henry is about the same age as his cousin Geordie, and just as verbal.  His birthday is coming up, and his Mom asked him what kind of cake he wanted.  His answer was “camel”… so Alexa made and decorated a camel-shaped cake after dinner.  How’s that for creativity!

Other Family

I met up with another nephew Nick Chermayeff (my sister Janie’s youngest son) for lunch in Stamford.  I had seen his Dad earlier in the week and could deliver a proper hug.  Nick and wife Andrea live in Rowayton, Connecticut (around the corner from a house I rented 30 years ago), and raise four wonderful kids.  He is managing some investment portfolios and enjoying his life in Connecticut!

After lunch with Nick, I had some spare time and took advantage of the shaded garage of a local Home Depot to execute another “field fix” of the water pump drip.  This time, I used greased twine rather than infused packing material, and the new repair seems to be holding back the drips just fine!
