Field Fix on the Fly

The Cadillac was in reasonably good shape from its travel in a transport — a little “shaken and stirred” but not damaged. There has been a pesky leaky problem with the water pump… Not a show stopper, really, but annoying to have the car dripping water from the water pump shaft while in your friend’s driveway.

So as car nuts are likely to do, a field repair was launched!

Paul’s friend Joe Puleo, a first-class car nut and author of “Getting Home Alive; Memories of Car collecting Before it got Civilized“, volunteered to re-pack the water pump seal.  As it turns out, we could not get the water pump sufficiently disassembled, so Joe devised a workaround using rubber hose to create a secondary seal around the water pump.  It stopped the dripping!

For the rest of the day (the 2 hours that were left) we drove around with Paul and his wife Karen and son Adam and friends (see slide show, below).

On to Saugus!

Our time included a nice drive through the Boston suburb of Wakefield and dinner on Lake Quannapowitt.
